Hi

I want to export a 3ds map that i have created using data from the OS Digimap Website, the map includes a 3D topography and buildings, how would i go about doing this. I am not sure if what i am asking is even sensible this is the first time i have used Autocad Map 3D.

The end goal is to have a 3D obejct the same in 3DS Max as it represented in Autocad Map 3D. I have included an image of what i have in Autocad Map 3D.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

I am now currently trying to do the same for animation purposes. Did you eventually arrive at an answer?

Hello @LiamIcely and @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

This thread is before my time but let's see what I can do to get you an answer here.  I don't know much about AutoCAD but I know two great support specialists who do.  If we can get poly information out of AutoCAD with textures I can help you get that into 3ds Max.

@john.vellek and @Emmsleys, would either of you have an idea about this?  Thanks for any information!

Hello @Anonymous and @LiamIcely,

I have tried exporting in every format I could from AutoCAD map, but none of them seem to export actual 3D files.  I know Max very well but I don't know AutoCAD at all.   I've done some attempting to export 3D objects from Maps but I have had no luck.   My best suggestion here is for me to transfer this to the AutoCAD maps forum instead, and I'd be happy to do that now.

Here is a list of 3ds Max supported file formats.   The question is how do we get them out of Maps.

Hi,

data connected via FDO (command _MAPCONNECT) is not a geometry within the drawing-file, it's nothing else than referenced data with a style that shows it as 3d-surface. But there is nothing you can export as mesh, as 3d-faces or similar AutoCAD 3d-geometry.

One options can help: with FDO you can create contours from the surface (this results in a SDF file, then you can create polylines from that and these polylines can then be exported as dwg and imported into 3DS-Max, ready to create a surface from these polylines.

This video shows how to create the polylines from a FDO linked dataset:

Thank you very much @Alfred.NESWADBA for the information.  I really appreciate that.

Can you verify this worked for either of you @LiamIcely or @Anonymous?  I'd love to mark it as a solution if it works out.  My knowledge of AutoCAD is too limited to fully grasp this suggestion by Alfred.  Thanks for any confirmation you can give to me!
