Elevation missing from contour layers

Anonymous
Not applicable

I imported some point clouds and converted them into a surface. I wanted to create a 3d contour map of the surface. however, when I create the contour layer, it is just a flat layer and does not include any elevations. Is there a way to include elevation data in my contour layer ?

Nik,

Need more information please. Is your point cloud data a LAS file or DEM? How did you import your data and create your surface? (steps please) Can you post your drawing and/or point cloud data? Are you using Map 3D or Civil 3D? What is the end-result of the contours? (where are they going?)

Hi Dave,

Thanks a lot for your reply!

My point cloud file is a .las file and I am using autocad map 3d . Here are my steps:

1) imported the pointcloud using the _POINTCLOUDMANAGER

2) all the .las files were indexed in this function

3) Once the point cloud was created, I right clicked on the pointcloud layer and clicked create surface

4) the contours are only showing as a flat layer. I want the contour line to show up on different elevation.

I have attached a jpeg photo for your reference.

Nik,

I'm completely failing in my attempts to use your steps. Point Cloud Manager is blank and useless in my Map 3D 2016. What version are you using?

I even tried bringing a LAS Point Cloud in with ReCap. I was able to do that, but it won't create a Map Feature Layer like you show in your Screen Shot.

So I'm not much help. Sorry. Maybe someone else will weigh in with something clever.
