Editing block attributes with Properties palette not working

In AutoCAD 2014, I could use the Properties palette to enter attribute values. Enter value, press return, enter next value, and so on.

In AutoCAD 2016 (actually Map 2016), I can enter values but when I press return, focus is returned to the command line (and the selected block). This is annoying because I have to keep clicking onto the next attribute to edit.

Tried using the tab key instead.

Tried holding down CTRL as I press return. This half worked but focus goes back to the command line after one successful return.

How can I maintain focus on the Properties palette?

Show us a screenshot: it works fine in plain R2016 if I'm doing it as you describe. Could be a MAP quirk? Ask in that forum but first ensure you have all the 2016 patches and updates installed first

Hi,

no problem with my MAP 3D 2016 french. I can enter a value, press enter, next attributes has focus, I can enter new value and so on. Command line never obtains focus.

A colleague's is fine (same Map 2016, same hardware) so it must be something with my setup. Not sure where to start looking...

Like everyone else, I'm not seeing this....

Have you tried resetting to default settings?

Did you ever figure this out? I am having a similar problem in ACAD 2018

I didn't and, at the time, just put up with it. Now, 2 years on, it's working but I can't remember what might've happened during that time. Still using the same laptop and still using Map 2016.

Sorry I can't offer any more info.

I had this problem for AutoCAD C3D 2016 whenever I changed STARTUP to 2. Changing it to anything other than 2 fixed the issue.

I'm having this exact issue in AutoCAD Map 3D 2023. It's infuriating to see reports of people having this exact issue for over eight years. I can hop from property to property using TAB or even ENTER, but as soon as I change a value and hit either TAB or ENTER the keyboard focus jumps to the command line.

Jumping to the command line?

Sound like it's in the Block's Definition.

Upload the offending block.

If you know what I should look for in a block definition that'd be helpful. I can't just start uploading our drawings to the web. I just wish I didn't have to use the Attribute Editor dialog, which suffers from similar uselessness when it comes to doing things with just the keyboard.

No, no. Not the dwg file. Just the block itself.

Use cut-and-paste. Cut the offending block from your drawing......then paste it into another new drawing. Then upload that new drawing.

The block itself... is not going to be uploaded here.

@rambeault

Huh, why not here?

It's a block! It's not a corporate trade secret that borders financial collapse that involves CIA espionage.  SMH.

The best guess (since you're unwilling to upload your block), is to look inside the block definition. And/or the the Parameters established when creating the individual attributes.

I understand you may be push back with this workflow, but the block definition is the the best guess since you're unwilling to share. Might be evident in the block editor--right under your nose.

Hi,

I've same problem, but only in a layout.

If I insert bloc with attribut in model space, and select it, I can enter a value of an attribut in properties palette, and by pressing enter, I jump to next attribut and all text is highlight, so I can enter a value, press Enter, enter next value and press enter ...

In a layout, same block is inserted. I select it, and go to property palette. I enter a new value for attribut and press enter. Focus go to command line instead of next attribut. If I enter a value, it's written in command line. I need to go back to palette to select next attribut.

I join a simple DWG with only 1 block inserted in model space and same in layout.
