Do I need to keep AutoCAD 2024 installed if I get Map 3D?  I know with Civil 3D you don't need AutoCAD to be installed because it is at the heart of the program.  It is just a matter of changing the workspace.  Is the same thing able to be done with Map 3D?

No, you don’t need to keep it. If you want to use Map3D like plain vanilla AutoCAD you can switch to 2D Drafting Workspace.

Although the 2D Drafting WS won’t display the same ribbon as the Planning and Analysis WS, the Map3D toolset will still work if you execute the commands from the command line.

Umm... AutoCAD is part of the MAP3D installation, so it will come back, just in disguise, not much else.
So you might as well not remove it (M3D will jut add it's hooks to it), but if it is too distracting you can just remove the shortcuts on your desktop if you think you will always trigger it for some reason.
