I was very excited when I learned how to convert a drawing from one coordinate system to another. However, the drawing features disappear as soon as I save it. I used the "attach" and then "query drawing" function in the Map Task Pane to accomplish the conversion and everything worked fine until I tried to save it.
Here were my issues:
1. I was given a drawing that uses 3TM - our city, in its infinite wisdom. has chosen this projection for whatever reason. (I'm sure there is a good one.)
2. The problem is, I have hundreds of sample point locations that I need to bring into this drawing and they are in UTM NAD83. I know I could convert the points instead but I have a feeling there will be other dwg data coming and it will be in UTM.
3. The original drawing had hundreds of layers and I couldn't do the query all in the one go as suggested by @ChicagoLooper (who gives so much excellent advice BTW). So I decided to change all the layers to ONE layer, called CONVERT (after I exploded everything in the drawing - I know, a no-no but at this point I don't care.)
4. The conversion worked great! The drawing is now in UTM and I can bring in the air photo and points and all is well in the world. Except. When I go to save the drawing, the lines that I had brought in disappear. Upon further investigation is appears that these lines come in as one solid entity, like a block, or a preview!
Is there another secret toggle that AutoCAD has skillfully hidden that I need to execute in order to have the conversion "stick"? Please help!
I am using AutoCAD Civil3D Infrastructure 2020
Thank you in advance,
Liesl
