Cannot make ArcSDE Connection Using Map 3D 2020

I have three version of Map 3D installed and working on my machine.  I can make an ArcSDE Connection with 2018 and 2019, and successfully connect to our GIS, but I cannot do it with 2020.  I have followed the same setup for all three versions (see https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-map-3d/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...).  I've tried a number of potential solutions: update the DLL files with newer ones, copy additional DLL files to the FDO folder, try different methods of connection.  Nothing works.

Is your SDE in Oracle or SQL Server?

Do you have the latest client?

Is it the right bit-ness, 32 vs 64?

Is there a firewall stopping AutoCAD Map 2020?

Is there a copy of ESRI ArcMap licenced on your PC?

Is your SDE in Oracle or SQL Server? SQL Server

Do you have the latest client? Yes (10.7, which is the version of our database).

Is it the right bit-ness, 32 vs 64? Assuming this refers to the above client; we installed 64 bit, we can try installing 32 bit as well, if you think that would help.

Is there a firewall stopping AutoCAD Map 2020? Not really sure what this question is asking. Firewall blocking connections between my machine and the server with the database?   Since I can connect using older versions of Map 3D (2018 and 2019), I would say “no”.

Is there a copy of ESRI ArcMap licensed on your PC?  No, but I have Arc Reader 10.4 (which I no longer use) and ArcGIS for AutoCAD 370 installed.  ArcGIS for AutoCAD 370 opens in Civil 3D 2020.  As a side note, our GIS is moving away from ArcMap at the end of the calendar year and replacing it with ArcGIS Pro.

I think the problem is that you're trying to connect to an esri 10.7 server but Map 2020 only supports up to ArcGIS 10.6.1.

Map 3D 2018 and 2019 are able to connect to ESRI 10.7.  I wonder why Autodesk downgraded 2020 to only open ESRI 10.6.1.  I've tried installing the beta release of the next version of ArcGIS for AutoCAD, but that didn't work.

I am able to connect to SDE SQL Server with AutoCAD Map 3D but I needed a
licence of ArcGIS Desktop.
Perhaps you need to re-licence for 2020?

Interestingly, ESRI is moving to ArcGIS Pro, and that licence does not
enable AutoCAD Map 2020, so making people install the old ESRI product is
not sustainable long term.

I have restarted my computer several times since I last tried ArcGIS for AutoCAD.  It now works in Map 3D 2020.  The ArcSDE still does not work in 2020.  For now, I will accept ArcGIS for AutoCAD as the solution.
