The geometry type for an SDF is set for more than one type (points, curves &
surfaces) by default in the schema. You need to create a new schema with
just one geometry type then bulk copy the original sdf to that then to the
shp format.

Hello Murph,

the same message comes up as before even though I did what you have said.

Do you have any idea why.

Try this:
1. Create empty folder where you will store SHP file.
2. Data > Connect to Data > Add SHP Connection > as Source folder use that empty folder > Connect.
3. Use Bulk Copy. From your SDF file To empty folder, created before.

Good luck,

I am attempting the same thing as the original poster. Basically copying SDF parcel data to SHP. When I follow Murph's advice, I still get the error "Apply schema on a single SHP is not allowed" even though my geometry is just set to 4 (Surface) in the schema definition.

When I try Rimante's method - Map allows me to get further with the bulk copy but the resulting SHP is empty. In other words, no schema is created.

This is Map 2009 sp1.

Thanks!

Step one, create a new folder on your c: drive (or
some place close not to buried)

Step two, data connect a shp connection to that
folder

Step three, connect to the SDF file if you haven't
already

Step four from the tools icon > Bulk copy,
select the SDF file and the shp connection.

Step five, select the schema from the SDF, uncheck
the SDF ID number, Select Default for the schema for the shp
connection.

Step six, Check ignore the coordinates and geometry
type boxes,

Step seven, bulk copy

Step eight, report back if it works

Step nine, add another Buy Murph a beer at
.......... darn OTU (tech camp) is online now...... when ever.

Hot diggity - it must have been the ID's that were preventing the data from copying. Thanks!

opportunity.

you see, why not just copy this post into the help file?  what is the point to write a help file that neglects these important facts

1. connect to folder not file

2. uncheck SDF ID
