Weird selection highlighting

I don't know quite how to describe what is happening, but I'll try. Yesterday afternoon AutoCAD LT 2020 spontaneously changed its selection highlighting from what it normally is to dashed white lines for selected lines and a strange sort of stippling for two dimensional shapes. I restarted AutoCAD and the highlighting reverted to what it had always been, for a while, but after a few minutes it was back doing what I described. This morning it was back to normal for a couple of hours, but now it's doing it again. It's kind of annoying; is it something I did? I haven't been doing anything out of the ordinary that I know of.

I found that my video card driver was way out of date; I remembered that yesterday the weird highlighting started soon after I got a popup in AutoCAD telling me that hardware acceleration was off, and when I tried I couldn't turn it on. I updated the driver, and now I can turn on hardware acceleration. Highlighting is back to normal. Maybe that fixed it.
