Using Ordnance Survey Maps in AutoCAD LT

Hello,

I have a current subscription for Autocad LT 2021 and pay to receive Ordnance survey maps online.

At the moment, when I carry out a search to 'Set Location' it uses the Ordnance Survey map as a base map but the option DOESN'T appear to be present for downloading into the Drawing.

[The subject line of this post has been edited for clarity by cheryl.buck]

Can anyone help me please?

Regards,

Who do you pay? And what did they say was the problem, does their product actually support LT versions of AutoCAD?

Hi @dh.allen,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD LT forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

When you say you are able to use it as a base map, but not able to download it into the file, can you clarify?

What file format are your ordnance survey maps?

That was a very fast response. Many thanks.

After pressing Insert>set location>from map, a large Box (including World Map) appears. At this point there are FIVE alternatives for setting a location. The fifth is Ordnance Survey.

However, when the Base Map is downloaded, there are only FOUR options and Ordnance Survey doesn’t appear to be available.

I’m sorry I do not know what the file format of the Ordnance survey maps is. Is it easy to find out?

My apologies.

Have only recently decided to learn to use Autocad. At 72, I decided to learn to draw more accurately.

Regards,

Thanks for the detailed information: as far as I know that's not an ability we have in AutoCAD/LT, but I do not have a "base map" to test it for sure.

Where are you buying these maps from?

Thanks again for your continued help.

I have an online account directly with Ordnance Survey.

Clearly, if there is an option with Autodesk, I would be pleased to consider it.

Indeed, I would be interested to know if there are ANY more detailed maps for download with Autocad LT 2021

I'll have to rely on others then to test, I do not have access to those maps.

Note: AutoCAD/LT is the not the best software solution if you need to work with survey maps as your line of business: Autodesk offers a variant of AutoCAD called AUTOCADMAP3D for that line of work (I assume you're not a Civil Engineer, if you are, that specific software is called AutoCADCIVIL3D).

Hello,

A very helpful reply. Many thanks indeed.

I'm an amateur, just concerned with producing diagrams and maps for research I'm carrying out.

AutoCAD is not in my league .........as they say. I'm just using AutoCAD LT

Assume you need to buy Autocad to use AUTOCADMAP3D ?

Thanks,

David

Correct, MAP3D is free with a subscription to AutoCAD.

But I would recommend you try MAP3D (not just AutoCAD) before committing https://www.autodesk.com/products/autocad/free-trial?plc=ACDIST&term=1-YEAR&support=ADVANCED&quantit...

Hello,

A recent Autodesk email asked me if I was satisfied with my replies.

Well, I can't complain at how quickly and how thoroughly the matter was looked at BUT........

I still don't understand why, when trying to download a base map, you cannot see an Ordnance Survey map when it is listed in the Geographic Location window! Listed are the steps followed

Insert > Set Location > From Map > Do You Want to Use Online Data ? > YES > Geographic Location. At this point I was given the following choices 1/. ROAD; 2/. AERIAL; 3/. BIRDS EYE; 4/. Street or 5/. ORDNANCE SURVEY. From this I chose Ordnance Survey.

I'm not sure why the Option is given, if you are not allowed access to it.

At this point I must make it clear I am using a 'rented' 2021 LT version.

I am not a business, simply retired, wanting to draw clear diagrams and maps for some research matters.

A full version of AutoCad would not be feasible.

Can you buy/rent any 'add ons' for mapping for 2021 LT ?

Thank you for any further help.

That's just a generic email that goes out to anyone that posts in any forum: no one here is Autodesk nor looking for an answer to that email.

As we concluded during the earlier replies, you are most likely using the wrong variant of AutoCAD for your task at hand. Did you try the other program? its free for 30-days .

Find out. Good luck.

It could be worthwhile trying to contact ordinancesurvey.co.uk and see what they say. If anyone knows how to get the data into AutoCAD it would be them. It certainly sounds like it should work and as though something on your computer is being registered or at least recognising you having access to those maps, when I try to set a geolocation point I definitely DO NOT see an option anywhere to use Ordinance Survey maps.
