unable to run AutoCAD LT 2005 - "error hanlder re-entered"

When starting AutoCAD LT 2005 user receives the following error message:
"Error handler re-entered. Exiting now."
After clicking OK AutoCAD closes.
The problem has appeared suddenly - there were no installations or setting changes in the meantime. User was trying to do something for his own:
- "clear" reinstall (deleting the folders and registrty keys) and Service Pack 1
- scandisk - no errors found
- antivirus, spyware - no viruses, trojans, spyware etc.
- restoring the system to a "working" day
- creating the new administrator account and starting the program
- starting in the diagnostic mode (the same error, no more information)
Nothing helps, nothing found in the Knowledge Base. BUT... The day that the error occured was 12.12. The same day seven updates were installed automatically by Win XP, so the customer assumed that the AutoCAD error was caused by the updates. He did another"clean" AutoCAD uninstallation, then removed all seven updates (restarting the system after each removal), installed AutoCAD LT 2005 + SP1 but the error still appears and the software can't be used.

Please share ANY suggestions and comments - is it hardware issue, or can the system reinstallation help, or whatever, could Windows updates somehow affected the files used by AutoCAD and results in "handler" error...
It's serious problem so I will be extremly grateful for any ideas.

I have found that going into the windows prefetch directory and removing
the acadlt, aclauncher and various adsk files from there will
occasionally result in trashed software working again. This directory is
sort of an accelerator directory that monitors how programs run and then
causes them to load quicker. Deleting from there will not cause problems
since the next time you run the program the files will be recreated,
but if they somehow got corrupted, or the system environment changed as
from an ipdate they will interfere with the program running correctly.

Thanks a lot! I will ask the customer to check it. I guess there'll be a need of deleting them each time, but it would be great if we compare to the problem that we have now!

uhm, unfortunatelly doesn't work... all files from Windows\Prefetch were deleted and when the folder was clear AutoCAD was launched. still the same error - "error handler re-entered". the strange thing that as far as I know it's a secondary error appearing when there's no memory to display "do you want to save" or something like this. here it appears as the first message, we don't know why.
in the meantime user installed AutoCAD 2000i on the same machine - works perfectly. due to some licensing issues (upgrades etc.) he can't use this software, it was installed only as the test.

anyway, thanks for trying!!

Mariusz:

Check for corrupt .mnr (menu resource files), as they can cause this. In
most cases, these should be recreated automatically if you just delete them.
There are of course many other possible causes. 🙂

What i normally do is close autocad go to start > run > regedit when that loads click the HKEY_CURRENT_USER so that all the other options drop down. when you have done this find the "Autocad" file and once again click it so you get more options. Now right click the "R13" file and rename it (this can be to anything). once all this is done reopen autocad.

Hope This helps,

Dan

All registry keys were deleted after uninstalling LT. But your suggestion will be useful anyway when something will be messed up somewhere else, thanks!
As far as I know the customer had to reinstall the system, so there was no happy end. Plus, we still don't know where the problem was. And we probably won't know.
I had the similar situation few months ago reported from the other user, in his case reinstalling was successful and he could run the product again. I have no idea what can cause "error handler re-entered" and how to avoid it in the future...
