Tricks to Plot Map sections in AutoCAD

I have a big drawing, a map, that I want to plot. I have made a layout containing the whole map.Now I need to mark some areas of the map to be printed on seperate papers in another scale. I also would like to mark the areas on the big layout so it´s possible to see where the cutouts belong, preferably I would like to number the areas on the big layout so it's easy to find the right "Cut-out" when I sort my paper-drawings. Are there any way to do this, any schortcuts? I could do a lot of new layout containing the smaller areas of the map but it would be hard to mark the exact area that is plotted on the bigger layout.

Yes it's very easy. Just draw rectangles/lines around the areas you want to plot. And stick the number in the middle of the rectangle. I would also stick the number and the rectangles/lines on the DEFPOINTS layer so they don't plot.

Hi fredrik.wickstroem,

@h_s_walker's post is exactly the way I would approach the issue as well. In addition to creating a grid on a non-plotting layer, I would utilize the Align Space tool found in the Express tools so I could set  up my viewport(s) for each map section.

John, there are no Express Tools in LT where you are posting.

@pendean,

Right you are sir. Thanks for catching me on that. Obviously the user can still use the grid method and do a little simple math to make viewports match the grid sizes.

Thanks!
