System variables changing to random values

My co-worker uses AutoCAD 2016 LT. He's been having trouble with random system variables changing to random values. This all started happening since I installed the service pack (SP1) and the latest hotfix on his computer. PICKBOX goes from 5 to 1, right click quick menu gets turned off, clicking the menu bar (file, edit, view ect...) changes the crosshair to the standard cursor (makes dimensioning from this menu impossible because you can’t use osnaps), SAVETIME gets set to 0, CURSORBADGE turns off and on. Some of these variables reset back when autocad is restarted, but some don't. I know changing variables can be reset with the SYSVARMONITOR box but how can I keep them from changing in the first place? Because I'm using acad 2016 LT as well but none of this happens to me. I'm running Windows 10 home he's running Windows 7 pro.

On other posts people say this can be caused by bad lisp routines, but LT can’t run lisps.

You have to try and figure out when exactly they change: doing what at the time. SYSVARMONITOR is good at prompting you exactly when that happens so have your coworker simply stop and think about what they used.

Note: SAVETIME is turned off when you use PUBLISH command: that's by design.

Hi evan.alley,

  • For your co-worker,does this happen for all windows user profiles, or only one?  For instance, if you log on as a different windows user, does the issue still happen?
  • If he reset settings to default does the issue still happen?
  • Would he be able to run a selective start up and working in a controlled environment for a day?

There is only one user profile on his computer, and I did enable the balloon notification on his SYSVARMONITOR but he doesn't reset his variables and I think he shouldn't need to?? This is never an issue for me and I have the exact same version of acad. I know that some variables change on there own but PICKBOX shouldn't change from 5 to 1??

As I noted: your user needs to watch for the moment the variable changes while they draft, stop, call you over, and you two walk through the exact steps just before it happened so you can replicate and identify the trigger.

Emmsleys wants you to create a new Windows log-in for the user, with all new credentials, and confirm if the problem goes away or not.

The reason I suggested the separate user account is to cancel out that it could be something in his user profile account that could be adding to the issue. It was just a troubleshooting suggestion that he could do. Its just a new environment to test AutoCAD in to see if the issue can be replicated there. Same goes for the selective start up.

It is odd that variables are changing from 5 to 1. If you are able to provide screencast (to see what exactly happens to make the system variable to change) or a NFO file of his system that could help when troubleshooting this issue.

Thanks.

Circling back to see if you were able to identify which work flow caused the changes of system variables. Were you able to try the other suggestions or provide the additional information?

i have exactly the same problem with Autocad 2017LT. my ststem variables will just change mid session for no reason. Also upon opening AutoCad some days my cursor pickbox has shrunk, my middle button pan command has gone and my textfill has set to 0. i have another seperate issue where my screen splits horizontally and the top half is frozen, i have to restart Cad then i cannot swith on my properties & design centre docked palletes. another AutoCad restart remedies this. at this moment in time Autodesk technical support do not know what causes any of these 3 seperate faults. im also running windows 10. they suggested posting to this forum as its all they could find.
