Super laggy DWG from ext. source, unable to work with that file

Hey there,

I'm working on a project and got a DWG file of regal layout from someone outside our team. Usually, I just tweak these files and use them as XREFs in my drawings.

But this time, I'm having a major problem. The file is super laggy—it's been two hours, and I can't seem to make it work smoothly in my project.

I've tried a bunch of things, like deleting unnecessary stuff, running commands like AUDIT, PURGE and OVERKILL, and even exploding everything + putting it in block, also trying those commands over and over again. But nothing's really helped. Simple move command takes few minutes.

I've dealt with tricky files before, but this one's driving me nuts. My PC's not the issue — I've got high end setup. Even tried it on my work laptop with no luck. I'm using AutoCAD 2024 LT.

Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks a bunch for any help! I am attaching the DWG.

Dynamic Blocks-galore! That would explain the laggy-ness. Curious to see all the racks are made of individual blocks? I mean, if you're smart enough to create Dynamic Blocks, then why not make a complete rack as one dynamic block. Or use Minsert - which is my favorite tool. That should speed up things?

I am not a creator of the drawing, and I have no idea why anyone would do it this way. All I need is to import this layout into my drawing, but while doing so, it makes work inside DWG impossible.. I could put it in a separate layer and freeze it, but I need to see it and work with it...

I am losing my mind and working hours.

What if you insert the drawing as a block?

@dvorakKXCME How laggy?

Two hour to do what exactly?

Where do you store this file for your AutoCAD session to access?

Explain, I'm running LT2024.1.2 in WIn10Pro over here, your file is on my PC, not seeing any serious performance issues with opening it, editing inside of it, moving content nor xreffing it into another drawing. See below and attached.

Two hours trying to work with it, getting freezes, having to restart AutoCAD etc. etc.

I store this file inside a folder on m2 SSD. I didn't have latest update, but after updating it doesn't make any difference, still unable to work with that file.

The problems I have with this file:

When I select all object and try to move them, it takes about 3 minutes to even make a move animation and it often freezes. If this is as xref inside a drawing, working inside the file is nightmare, as mouse movement is very slow and every action takes way longer than usual.

We are searching a problem with your Setup - not an issue with this file.

Is you hardware acceleration (HA)  ON?

Turn it OFF, does it work much better? In this case you have trouble with your graphicscard/driver/setting.

Try this: Turn it ON again, change GFXDX12 variable to 0 (change dx12 using to dx11).

Does it work now wit HA on?

Please share your graphis protocoll, command GRAPHICSCONFIG

Is the m2 SSD your primary hardrive on your computer or an external drive?

Nothing like your lag here sadly, I can move your file's content easily. And as an XREF in a top file even more easily.

It might help if you started over with a RESET OF LT2024 like this

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-reset-AutoC....

Confirm the 2024.1.2 Update is installed by using ABOUT command in the program.

If that did not help... Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero) then restart AutoCAD/LT 2024.

Also consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables.

If still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If all else fails, then turn off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort. Anything?

Autodesk also has a very long list of items to check, start with the highlighted sections then work down the long list

Let us know how you fair.

Hello,

sorry for delay in reply. I have tried to turn off DirectX 12 and linesmoothing / fading and it made the drawing on laptop a little bit smoother - as much that I am able to work with it. Turning HAGS off or trying anything else than "advanced" made it more laggy.

Working on desktop PC is now without problems.

Thank you for this.
