Selecting Stretch displaces object

When I am trying to stretch an object/lines in Autocad LT normally I can select the option when the stretch point is hidden but when I'm trying today the objects stretches to the mouse position - any ideas what I'm doing wrong would be much appreciated!

Your method looks to be a very slow and painful way to stretch.

Any reason you don't just start STRETCH command, the "crossing window" select that edge, and with only the absolute necessary Osnaps running (and no others), click on and INT or MID then drag to where you want it to drag.
