Scale multiline text and keeping the text box the same size vs scaling it up too

Anonymous
Not applicable

Find attached an example, which contains three text boxes.

First text box "blah blah blah whatever etc" is default size.

Second line of text is the same but scaled up 2x.

Third line of text is also scaled up 2x but is the way I want it scaled: all on one line, with the text box width scaled up 2x as well as the text size.

By default Autocad makes text like the second line of text after scaling it. How d I make it default to the third line of text way of scaling? Sometimes it does it on its own, I don't know why though.

To get multiline text to stay one line when scaling you need to double click the text to start the text editor. Then on the ribbon select columns and change it to no columns. Then while still in the editor grab the two arrows that define the text box width at the right of the text and drag it all the way left until the ruler disappears. Then when you scale the text it should stay one line.

Remove the MTEXT width set inside each of your three samples, after you remove the columns option in each. All can be done with PROPERTIES command.

That works if it's one line of text but say it's two lines of text: when I scale up 2x it's liable to become 4 lines of text. How do I scale it up and keep it at 2 lines of text at the same time?

I know it is possible to do this because AutoCAD has done it before, and randomly flits between the two so there must be a system parameter that controls this behaviour or some hidden setting.

>>>...when I scale up 2x it's liable to become 4 lines of text...<<<
That's because you have a narrowly defined MTEXT Width set inside the editor. You need to widen the width to maintain the two lines. You can do that in PROPERTIES or by entering the mtext editor.

Or set the MTEXT width to zero and use a hard-return between line one and line two of your text.

Your choice. Try it now.
