Replace Blocks

Hi All

I have recently started using Auto CAD 2015LT (Business decided most of the functions of the full versions were not required), having come across from Auto CAD 2013 & 2014. I understand that the Express menu is not avaliable in 2015LT but 1 of the functions I used very often was Block Replace, in the Express menu. (Replace 1 block with another) I often have to change blocks, that can number into the thousands on projects. Is there another similar function in 2015LT??

Cheers

Hi hwalker.

The link has 2 options, 1 Express tool which I cant use, and 2 an old school method using insert.

Unfortunatly when using method 2 at step 2 a where you enter the block name =file name Auto CAD 2015 LT tells me block names can only be 8 characters and stops the process.

Has anyone tried this???? I am sure I am missing something

Where it says Block Name have you tried putting the block name in quotes

e.g. "This is a really long block name which is more than 8 characters"

You could also try the above with the filename as well

You can do the same thing from 'Design Center', with the drawing containg old blocks as the active drawing, goto the drawing with the updated block in DC and right click on the block name - choose the option to Redefine

OPTIONS command, SYSTEM tab, ALLOW LONG SYMBOL NAMES... .

Or you have unacceptable symbols in your block name like commas etc. Change these to underscores first.
Also avoid black spaces in block names: so instead of BLOCK NAME rename it to BLOCK_NAME.
