Raster image won't reload even though the file path is unchanged?

We're having major problems in our office with jpegs going missing from drawings despite the file path being unchanged? We are having to reassign the path for each image sometimes upwards of 30 images! For some reason a few images may show up which are saved in the same folder but the majority are missing, this is happening on many drawings worked on by various members of the team not just the odd one. On the odd occasion you can reload the image but most of the time this is not the case. We recently upgraded our server and this problem seems to have come about since the change however the drawings have been created since the upgrade not prior? Can anyone help??!!

Welcome to the Forums

Are the paths to the drawings the same for each computer.

eg. One computer could have "I:\This is the directory for drawing images" whilst another could have "P:\This is the directory for drawing images"

To get around this problem in my office we put all photos which are in a drawing in the same directory as the drawing.

Yes I've just checked with my colleagues and they are all saved on the one server therefore the paths are the same. We use a specific CAD Image folder for each project which we path back to and this never changes throughout the project.

Are these images attached with FULL PATH, Relative Paths, or No Paths? First one matches the issue @h_s_walker notes and sounds like the problem you are facing.

So do the images need to be Absolute Path to resolve? I'm confused as to why I inserted the images in one particular drawing but when I open it again on a different day the images are missing, its not just a case of different people opening them on their pc? Thanks.

AutoCAD needs to be able, on it's own through it's default searched folders, to find the folder the files reside in.
When it cannot, on it's own, you get what you are describing.

Left on it's own, AutoCAD's searched folders include the folder the DWG you open is in, folders listed with full paths to Xrefs and attached Images/PDFs, and all folders listed under OPTIONS commands' FILE TAB, Support File Search Path list of folders.

Full Path is defined as
"Drive > Folder > Subfolder > and other subfolders if any beyond that first subfolder"

So: are your images located under any of these parameters as far as your AutoCAD session is concerned?

This makes more sense, I've just checked the Support File Search path which is located on my personal hard drive. So for working on the shared server I need to relocate these paths, would you suggest setting up a specific folder on our server that everyone is linked to? Would you suggest doing this for all the paths ie fonts, help etc? Thanks.

What folder is your top file in? list it here.
What folder is your raster image in? list it here.
What path is the image set to in the file? list it here.

Following up on your thread, were you able to find a solution or a workaround? Did any of the posts in the thread help with the issue?

Post back in the thread with any updates.

Thanks.

Hi Sarah

I think we have resolved things, I asked our tech guy to take a look so hopefully we won't have any further issues?! Many thanks.

We are having a similar problem with a recent server change. Are you able elaborate on what solved your problem?

Thanks!

Have you changed the drive designation recently? eg. Has Drive 'G' Now become Drive 'Q'.

The easiest way to solve the problem is to always have a copy of the image in the same directory as the drawing itself, as that is where AutoCAD looks first to find any images.

No, the drive name was not changed. All the photos should be in same folder as DWG.

The longer this goes on the more it seems like a server issue and nothing wrong with AutoCAD.

and reloading (not detach, RELOAD) loads the image file?
