Pastespec command distorting aspect ratio when importing images

In my job I often have to copy images from pdf into autocad, and draw over them. I need these images to be quite accurate. To do this I have been using the windows snipping tool, saving the image, opening in paint, selecting all, copying all, then using pastespec -> Picture(metafile) to add the picture to the autocad drawing. I do it this way as I want to embed the images, while keeping the resolution regardless of how it is zoomed in or out.
I recently noticed that after doing this the images are sometimes slightly stretched, so that they have a different aspect ratio than the original image. I did some tests and realised it was the pastespec command doing this, since if I simply pastespec the same copy over and over, the resulting images will not all have the same aspect ratio.
I am guessing this is just a bug/inaccuracy with pastespec and there is nothing I can do about it.
Has anyone encountered this before? Is there another more accurate method I could use to import the pictures which keeps image quality even when zoomed out? If I try to paste in the images normally I get distortion like this:
I am using Autocad LT 2018.
Thanks in advance.
