Hi,

all people of the world love "does not work".

Draw a circle in File1, copyclip the circle, go to file2, model tab

Type in .pasteorig (with the point)

What happens?

Alerts? Any feedback? [F2]

Use ZOOM Object last

can you see the circle now?

Is the layer of your circle ON and not freezed?

Tell us more than "does not work"

or the best: Share your drawings(dwg).

@admin_itAWRA3 See if you can figure it out:

1) Expand the commandline to be 4-6-10 lines tall, then keep an eye on it for error messages as you
2) copy from the source file then PASTEORIG in the destination file.

3) If there are no error messages, then in the destination file use ZOOM command's EXTENTS sub-option, then unlock, thaw and also turn on ALL layers, start SELECT command and use the LAST sub-option to see what on your screen highlighted: bet that's your object, perhaps not where you assumed it would land but where it actually landed.

If you find the above challenging for any reason, please share both DWG files here (source and destination) for someone to decipher it for you.

TIA

Previously I've worked on mac version in my office, and it works just fine. I was asked to switch to a windows PC recently and started to face this issue. I'm attaching a video, have a look at it.

Ahh, that's a different case, unfortunately AutoDESK didn't implement an alert for this situation.

Rule: Insertion with original coordinates only works if source file and target file are different!

In MENUBAR,  menu EDIT, the button for insert with original coordinates are greyed out,

in context menu, it is greyed out too!

Just in ribbon (what you are using in the video) it isn't greyed out and

Unfortunately, a note is missing here so that the user understands this.

___

Workaround: Copy with Base Point! CTRL+SHIFT+C   or simple _COPYBASE

0,0,0

and then, paste to 0,0,0

In mac version, insertion with original coordinates works even if source and destination file is the same. I don't understand why this does not work for windows.

And the workaround you've suggested, works but this is lengthy process and would affect my working speed.

Hi,

>don't understand why this does not work for windows.
I can not say why, just how it works (or not works)

>And the workaround you've suggested, works but this is lengthy process and would affect my working speed.
>copy/clip from-to the same drawing is a good choice if you want to paste different layout,
>for copy/clip from-to the same layout(or model) you should use native internal functions, in this case: COPY command.
SpeedUp the workaround: You can set up your own "insert to wcs0,0,0" button or shortcut
^C^C^C_.pasteclip;*0,0,0

And also one which copyclip by base point wcs0,0,0: ^C^C^C_.copybase;*0,0,0

We are all end users just like you: you can ask Autodesk yourself where they look for that sort of query, here is the link https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

Why did you switch to Win from Mac? As an LT user, there is not much gain in 2023 and lower versions to switch.

It was management choice to make the switch because they had mac PC, which was getting slow these days, and we couldn't upgrade it. So it went away to another new employee, and I got a high spec windows PC.

Anyway, thanks for the link. I'll give feedback to Autodesk team.

I don't know how to create a shortcut or a button. Can you explain?

For a quick test:

Add a "Command" from CUI dialog to your TOOLPALETTE [CTRL+3] by drag&drop, close CUI dialog.

RightClick on your new command tool, Properties...

Edit name and macro.

Much more as long story.
