offset command setting changed

When I use the Offset command I click Offset icon, type in the distance, hit Enter, select the line, select the side and boom all good.  For some reason the box that typically accepts the distance has the word "through" in it and I can't change it.  The options quick commands don't show a return to default setting.  I don't know what I did to change this but this is not the first time.  In the past I could get it to stop by hitting escape or enter (not sure how I did it) but nothing works.  I even closed the file and the program and started over.  Please advise.  thanks.

So.. is your NUMLOCK on too?
Or is your laptop keyboard require extra to type numbers?
