I use only metric and my autocad used to open by default in metric. Recently it has somehow switched to imperial. I can change it in drawing units, etc but how do I get it back to open in metric by default? Thanks

Do you use a company template? or the built-in Autocad templates? Autocad uses the last template chosen by default, so if for some reason you used an imperial template once then that is what is started the next time you start with a new blank drawing. If you choose the "acadltiso" template from the start screen of Autocad then that should be the one used in the future when you start a new drawing.

If you only ever intend to use metric use the following steps to change and set this as default for any new drawing session you open:

  • Enter the UNITS command to bring up the Drawing Setup dialog box.
  • Once there, change Units to Millimeters or Meters.
  • Check the box next to "Save as Default" in the bottom left of the dialog box.
  • The drawing will now open with the correct drawing units (mm or meters).

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help. I think I've fixed it by making another template with the default settings I need. Don't know why it changed though!
