Match properties

Is there a button or tool that I can click in AutoCAD LT to automatically
change all the property settings to match that of another item in the
drawing, before I begin drawing it?

I know there is the Match Properties button, but as I understand its use, it
will change one item to match that of another, after the fact.

I want to be able to change layers, line style, color, etc, to match my
selected item in the drawing.

Thanks

Nope. Sorry.
This feature was left behind in Generic CADD :o(

Well, there is AI_MOLC (make object layer current). If you allow your
layers to govern the entity properties then this command/button will do
what you ask. Or, if you have a some standards in place, you could make
buttons or menu items to click on that setup what you want. Say a standard
was bolt centerlines are to be on layer "bolts", color 8, and linetype
center4. The button/menu macro would look like:
^C^C_-layer;_m;bolt;_c;8;;_lt;center4;;;

The only other option is to get something that enables LISP in LT, like
DrcAuto's LT Toolkit (http://www.drcauto.com/ ). This would let you use or
make a LISP function to do what you want. LISP enables access to retrieve a
selected objects full properties and store them in variables for use
elsewhere.

Enjoy,
Stef

Paul,
Can you explain further or give an example, I have found the properties box
and Quick select to be more flexible than match properites, I dont know if
its what you want though,

Simon,
Conny's note above tells me she is aware of what we were looking for. In
Generic CADD and Visual CAD, there was a tool to click on that you could
then select a particular line or item in your drawing and it would change
all the settings on your system to match that particular item.

Right now, in AutoCAD LT, we have to manually change a bunch of items in the
various properties settings or draw what we want then click on the match
properties tool.

Having this available would have just speeded up things.

The Match-Properties-feature in Generic CADD worked in a different way.
Suppose you want to draw a text object.
On the screen you already have a text object with desired properties.
One sollution is to copy the text and change it.
But that is two commands. The Match Properties command starts
any drawing command by selecting an existing object and set
all current properties to match that objects properties.
All in one single action. A kind of clone tool.

As Stef said much of this can be done by setting the properties
to Bylayer and use the Make-Objects-Layer-Current-feature.

If you find this in lt 2000 please let me know - the 'property paint' in lt 98
was what I think you are looking for. It's the same thing as 'match properties'
in r14. I don't know why this disappeared, what has replaced it is not an
improvement.
