Linear Dimensioning

Hi there,

My old computer crashed, and I just re-installed AutoCad to my new comp.

When I open Linear dimension, I get a large crosshair accompanied by "Specify first extension line origin or <select object>:

I cannot hover over midpoints for dimensioning.

Previously I did not see any of this. I would simply hover over a line, and I could grab the midpoint and dimension from there. Now, I can only grab end points.

I have attached a pic of what I'm seeing.

Thanks a lot!

Dan

Do you have the midpoint osnap running? Required.
Or is SNAP on? F9 toggles it.
All I see in your screenshot is that you have DYNMODE and tooltips turned on: these can be turned off.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

Dan: I have "Snap Mode" and "Object Snap" on. How do I turn on "midpoint snap?

Or is SNAP on? F9 toggles it.

Dan: Yes, it is on.

Dan: How do I turn these off?

Thanks again!

Set DYNMODE to 0 (that's a zero).
Set OSMODE to 2 (type these at the commandline).
Turn off SNAP (F9 toggles it on and off, watch the commandline).
Tooltips are turned off in OPTIONS command's DISPLAY tab, several boxes to uncheck.

Now try to snap to a midpoint, there should be no problem. If there is, you will need to post the DWG file here for others to look at and figure out what else is going on.
