LAS import losing colors

Good Afternoon,

I am using LT 2017, on a Windows 7 machine.  I am having a problem, when I export my LAS file, and import in another file, all the colors assigned to my layers are gone.  

Does the normal export/import mechanic not preserve this information?  Do I need to use a macro to move these details between drawings?  All other aspects of these layers are preserved, except color.

Did you enter the LAS command settings and actively choose to save layer colors before creating then exporting that LayerState?

The checkbox in the layer state manager properties is checked for "Color," but I didn't do anything beyond that- is there more to it?

Nope, that's it: next question, are the layers that do no change actually part of the LAS list of layers to reset?

BTW Start a blank new file and confirm your LAS works, if not, post it here for all of us to look at.

Hi @JPomeroy, 

Just a few troubleshooting suggestions/questions to narrow down the issue;

Can you test this issue with a brand new file?  

Can you also test this file(and a brand new file) in AutoCAD LT in a new user account on your OS? Does the issue happen in that defaulted environment?

Would you be able to share the file? Or certain parts of it?

Sorry for the slow reply- I have been out on the road.

I don't know what is going on.  I got back, and had shut my computer off.  Now, the problem is gone.  Don't know if I was imaging it, or what, but restarting the computer/LT seems to have "solved" the problem, as I can no longer replicate it.

If it starts again, I will post the files (the new drawing I was using to open the LAS, and the LAS file itself.

See my reply to Dean- the problems seems to be gone.

I didn't change anything, other than rebooting the PC.  If it returns, I will post back here, and put the files up for review.  Thanks for trying!

I have two drawings.  Both have the same exact same layer names (many), but different colors are assigned to those layers in each drawing.  I saved a layer state in one (with desired colors), but when I import it into the other drawing, none of the colors are changing.  I'd like to import just the colors of the one drawing into the other, but as I understand it, this will only work if the layer names do not exist in the 2nd drawing (which is not the case here).  Is there any way to overwrite the colors in the 2nd drawing with the colors in the 1st drawing if both drawings have the exact same layer names?

I had the same problem, and a solution.

I selected a layer and clicked on restore layer, and the colourcame back

Funny you should say that ? I had the same issue as you did, so I let it go for a few days, then I  posted for help and in trying to describe the issue concisely I started up autocad and the LAS files worked perfectly  but yesterday they didn't even though I tried 7 times , every time they came up WHITE and I mean every single time, today after having had the computer shut down they "magically"worked all the layer colurs where there and correct, I was surprised that this happened. Just to let you know that you are not imagining things at all, it would appear that the BUFFER in autocad is not working correctly while the programme is open, it might be bloated with other things and not dumping all the inforamtion in your new layer state correctly into the new LAS file, i guesws thats why when you rebooted the PC and strted up Autocad LT your Las files worked coorectly, some CACHE file saving the *las file was full or bloated. that's just my guess but i bet you I'm right.
