Installing a new font

Hi there,

I have recently changed my logo on my title block and as a result require a new font.  I have managed to install the new font in question on my computer and is working within Microsoft word.  Problem is its not present in my fonts dropdown list in Autocad 2017 lt.  Having read a few posts on this, other people are implying that it should be present, with the possibility of having to restart the program a few times.  Does anyone have any ideas? You can try and put the file into the same folder as the drawing.

Then start the drawing.

Is it present then?

What type of font is it? TTF, OTF or SHX

And have you also put it into the AutoCAD fonts folder? (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD LT 2017\Fonts)

Hi there, thanks for replying.

I have just tried to copy font over to Autocad fonts and it said you need administrator permission, but it gave me an option to continue, so i continued it appeared to install but having just checked fonts in Autocad, its not there?

The font is an open type font file, I have copied and pasted font from word, it is now in drop down in autocad, but it isnt the correct font, should be Futura and looks more like simplex?

There is a restiction on using OTF in AutoCAD. See this link:

Copy/paste? AutoAD is not msword, you need to do a heck of a lot more for fonts to appear in AutoCAD. Do you have a STYLE defined with this font in your DWG file?

FWIW Fonts that open in other programs is no guarantee they will be read by AutoCAD: start STYLE command, create a new text style, now try to browse to find the font on the list. If it's not there then your TTF is a format AutoCAD does not support. If it's there, select it, now make that text style acitve and start typing text or mtext: it should appear.

Yes well looks like I need the correct type of font then,  I have tried your idea and has not worked, so I guess I need to try and locate correct font.  I require Futura, any idea where i can purchase said font suitable for use on Autocad?  Help appreciated, cheers

Find one that is not an OTF format: most fonts websites give you that info.

Well I have installed an SHX font now, gone to commands, style and yes Futura SHX is there in drop down but its preview is not correct and cant use it, so it appears it hasnt worked, i have tried starting the program a couple of times as well?

SHX fonts are stick line font shapes from the year 1983: they looked great back then but are garbage now.

Go find a proper Windows TTF font that is not an OTF and that looks like the font you need.
