Incorrect dimensions on lines snapping to other line

I'm running into an issue where when drawing a line perpendicular to another line. If I start a line from a random point in model space and draw it perpendicular to the middle line in the photo, the dimension changes to something incorrect. This seems to happen only to this line at this specific angle. I can perform the same action to lines at slightly different angles without issue. Once the line is drawn, even if it measures out to 10' in model space, the line characteristics show the length as something different. If I try to input a specific dimension for that line (say 10') it scales the line down to something way smaller.

This was a little hard to explain, apologies if further clarification is needed. Hopefully the pictures paint a clear picture of the issue. I have a few files where this happens, I'm not sure how it came to be. I tried erasing a redrawing lines at different points in the drawings and I always have the same issue at this specific range of angels.

Hi,

would be easy if you share this .dwg file 😉

.DWG model is a 3D world

/ see your 4.png, the line starts at z=0 and ends at -275'-6 15/16"

you isn't almost parallel to the current ucs (user coordinate system)

/ command UCS option VIEW will do that, but if you are not familiar with UCS and VIEWs, this isn't the way to go.

and you dimensionstyle can set up to display another distance than it is.

/ we can not check your dimension properties in a screenhsot

Share this .dwg and we can show you the issue

__

The usual setting to draw 2D drawings:

command: UCS world

command: PLAN WORLD

and the view is from "top"

but the objectsnap will snap to X Y and Z coorfinates always!

If you have lines which are not in XY-plane, osnap snaps to Z/=0 too

Use Command LIST and ID, also the properties palette

to check the Z values

or rotate your view..

Command: _-view _swiso

or from the side

Command: _-view _front

Thank you for the quick response and thorough response. I do see the issue now, I didn't notice that value in the z axis on the line properties. Just have to go clean up my mess now, haha.
