Importing CSV file

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all,

I work for a land surveyor that uses gps data in a CVS file in his drawings. He currently uses AutoCAD 2004, while I use AutoCAD LT 2016. When he sends me a drawing that has points inserted from those CSV files they do not appear when opened in AutoCAD LT 2016. I am also unable to import the CSV data points directly into the drawing. Is there something I am missing, or is it just not possible without downloading extra software?

Thanks,

Matt

LT is not a surveyor geared software package.
LT has no 'extra' software to download.

To import points into LT explore the same topics for LT found here http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?filter=location&location=forum-board%3A4...

Post back if you get stuck.

Sorry I meant a third party software that worked with AutoCAD.

Is there any explanation as to why the points, which are saved in the drawing before transfer, do not show up when opened in LT, or is this just information that can't be transfered from DXF to DWG?

Did you look at the link I provided? First couple of topics show you how with no extra software.

Other software that might work require you to upgrade to $4000 Full AutoCAD or $6000 AutoCAD Civil or MAP3D.

No idea about why their file doesn't work, you've not really provided much info, or the DWG file in question. Can you?
Also confirm the user is using plain AutoCAD 2004 or AutoCAD Civil or AutoCAd MAP which create objects LT2016 cannot read or use at the moment.

Yes, I have looked at the link and will begin trying suggested courses of action from there.

It looks like he is using AutoCAD 2000 Land Development 2i.

Attached is a DWG file sent to me that is supposed to have the point data already.

If more info is needed, just let me know.

Also, here are the coordinates as he has them before importing them into his drawings.

I haven't looked at your file but Usually LT is not capable of seeing custom objects created in LDT: you will need to pay up and acquire AutoCAD CIVIL or MAP if that is mission critical for you or ask them if they have a "save as AutoCAD" option at their end to knock a file down for you.

Review the topics I posted a link to and make it happen please: I'm not going to do it for you 🙂
