Import/Export shape files

After 30 years of working in AutoCAD, mostly Civil 3D, I am now retired.  I wish to still use CAD for fun, but no way can I afford Civil.  I downloaded AutoCAD LT.  It appears that I cannot import/export shape files - is this correct?

Plain AutoCAD and the LT version are not C3D replacements, and what you wish to do in not an option.

C3D and possibly Map3D are it if that's a dire need.

If you must use AutoCAD LT, then you're going to need a 3rd party (meaning something that is external) tool to convert the Shape Files into DXF or DWG.

There are other lower cost xxxxCAD applications out there that do support add-ons for their platform to directly import these data types into the CAD environment.  Here is one such Add-On, which would work with AutoCAD also.
