How to change transparency back to "By Layer"?

In the properties general tab, I have transparency set to zero. How do I change that back to "by layer"?

What do you do if you want 60%?

For ByLayer write ByLayer

I type in BY LAYER where it shows 0, but it doesn't work (reverts back to zero)...

Do you see the difference?

Just as an additional note you can type ByLayer, BYLAYER, ByLaYeR or any combination of capital/small letters you think of, it was the space that gave the error.
