How do you delete a layer with objects still in it?

I have a file with 389 layers and 12000+ objects, I have saved an additional file for me to alter. How do I delete layers without going through every layer and deleting the objects?

What version of LT are you using? Current versions of LT have the LAYDEL and LAYMRG commands. I think they were added to LT starting with 2007 LT.

You will need to place the entities you want to keep on the layers you want to keep befire you can delete the Layers you want to delete.

CHPROP and MATCHPROP can do this for before you can run LAYDEL and just get rid of the entities too.

You can Highlite all object, Right click, Properties, and put everything on Layer 0 and then delete all the Layers.

Blocks that have the Layers embedded in them will need to be edited and purged of those Layers.

For that matter try a PURGE and see what you get rid of.

If it was easy everyone would be doing it.

You could try by using Quickselect. Change the entities that are highlighted to the layer you created...........go down the whole list and purge.

Why can't the OP just use LAYDEL?

Make a copy and stash it away and start deleting layers. When he's happy with the drawing that has the deleted layers he can just delete the back-up copy.

Why would he want to go thru all those hoops?  Am I missing something?

DJ

Maybe he wants to keep the objects and not the layer they are on?

We wait breathlessly for the OP's response

That is what the LAYMRG command is for.

I read in this that he wanted to delete the objects as well as the layers.
