How do I make it stop?

I just upgraded to AutoCAD LT 2017 and it does something that is frustrating. Every time I want to indicate a count of items and express it as a number in parentheses, it goes into to bulleted list format and starts throwing in indents and the text of the number is not editable. I have gone into the right click menu and turned off Bullets and Lists, trying various selections (all the text, just the line, etc.), but every time I go back in and try to input my info, AutCAD turns it right back on.

You use so many non-AutoCAD terms I suspect no one wants to guess at what you are doing.
"...express it as a number in parentheses" means what, you start MTEXT command from scratch or are you editing an already existing mtext object?
"...trying various selections (all the text, just the line, etc.).." what do these objects have to do with mtext?
"...but every time I go back in and try to input my info...< Do you mean you are editng an existing mtext object or starting a new mtext?

Hi @Anonymous

To get a better idea of what you need and want could you create a screencast video. And illustrate what you are trying to accomplish or what issues you are running into... You can use the free application Autodesk Screencast.

  • What OS are you running? WIN 7,8,10?
  • Is this happening on all drawings or only specific few?
  • Have you ever gotten the work flow you need to effectively work in the past?

Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

Sorry; perhaps I can make it more clear.

I pull down the text menu to multiline text in order to write a block of text describing the components of an installation using a number in parentheses to indicate quantity, say "(4) SPR E20-327-C-AC Modules". I start typing, but as soon as I close the parentheses and put a space after it, AC converts my "(4)" to uneditable text and treats it as an unselectable single entity (if I want to change the 4 to a 5, I can't), and starts indenting things after it. That's a numbered list, isn't it? I don't want that; I just want it to be text like everything else.

I have tried various selections (the line of text that I am dealing with, or all the text in the block), pulled down the right click menu to "Bullets and numbers" and selected "off", but when I type "(4)" again, AutoCAD turns it right back on.

My office just bought me an LT 2017 subscription last week; I had been using my own LT 2016 subscription for a year or so before that. When I was using LT 2016, this did not happen and I am using the same template files as I was before.

Desktop PC, Windows 10.

Nothing changed with LT2017 from LT2016 with regards to MTEXT. I can do this in MTEXT, is this what it is NOT doing for you?

Capture.PNG

While in the editor, right-click, select BULLETS AND LISTS, then not only do you need to ensure OFF is chosen but you need to remove the check mark next to ALLOW BULLETS AND LIST. Then you need to finish typing the mtext and correctly exit out of MTEXT.

Is stays off here all the time until I turn it all back on.

LT2017 has updates to need to install either way too, do so when you get a chance.
