Ghost file opens in a band above live file AutoCAD LT 2020

When opening AutoCAD LT 2020 and opening a file, I get a ghost version of the file, sat in a band at the top of the 'live' drawing. Also, my layer properties box doesn't open properly and my usual settings (properties box, xref box don't open either). Thought it was a clash with AutoCAD 2016 remaining on my machine, had that removed, appeared better, but it has returned to be causing an issue.

Have attached a couple of images that hopefully help explain the problem.

Oddly once I have opened a file, if I close down AutoCAD then reopen it opens the file fine, albeit still missing my usual settings.

That usually means your video card is choking under 2020: start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and turn off hardware acceleration to see if that helps.

You also need to make sure you have the 2020.1 update installed: ABOUT command will confirm what you have installed.

Ways to fix missing command palette are noted here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Palett...

Many thanks @pendean

I have turned hardware acceleration off and checked the version and I am on 2020.1.

I will see how I go when I log back on on Monday and hopefully just turning off hardware acceleration will rectify the issue. I will work my way through your suggestion to fix missing command palettes and hopefully get that sorted too.

Fingers crossed 🙂

Looks like that didn't work so back to the drawing board (so to put it).

What is the make and model of your laptop/desktop?
What is the video card being used by AutoCAD?

I am using a Dell OptiPlex 7020 and it appears that CAD is using the 'Intel (R) HD Graphics 4600' graphics card.

What I am struggling to understand is why has it been fine for months and only now has it starting causing me problems.

Is that the only video card on that PC? The HDGraphics series are base model strip down offering that is really only good for non-CAD duties.

Either way, updated video card drivers may help, here is how to do that https://www.windowscentral.com/how-properly-update-device-drivers-windows-10#update-graphics-drivers

My machine also has the AMD Radeon (TM) RS 240 graphics card. I will make sure they are both up to date and see if that helps.

You have to get AutoCAD to use the Radeon too, which it is not according to your last post. here is how to do that https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-f...

Trying to get IT to sort this out. They couldn't force Radeon to be the main graphics card, something about this particular PC or something. I have left it with them to sort out so hopefully they are working on it!
