Freezing layer in viewport turns it off in model space

I havent been able to find a thread about this problem so apologies if one exists. Recently when working in 2017 LT, when freezing a layer in a viewport, these layers then turn themselves off in the model space. This has happened on two particular drawings but i havent been able to pin down if it effects every drawing i work on.

To clarify my process is;

  1. Go into paperspace tab and double click in the desired viewport
  2. Click the layer drop down on the ribbon and freeze in current viewport the desired layers
  3. Double click out of the viewport

At some point after this the frozen layers have completely turned off in the model space, though it doesnt seem to happen straight away.

Does anybody have any ideas as this is causing problems for colleagues opening the drawing after i have saved it and finding half the layers turned off.

1. Go into paperspace tab and double click in the desired viewport.
2. Start LAYER command to get the full pop-up, scroll to the far right to see the columns who's labels start with the letters VP (which stands for ViewPort) and freeze the desired letters there.
3. Double-click out of viewport.

Or better yet, learn to use LAYFRZ command, just remember to start it's settings option and ensure you select the viewport option. Look up the command in HELP on how to use it.

Also look up all the other LAY*** commands too, there is way more power there than just using the modelspace layer pulldown that you have been using.

OK i'll try those methods, thank you. Any idea why this is happening in the first place?

Update, i just figured out that isolating then unisolating any layer in the viewport is what triggers the layers to turn off

Um not quite sure why this was tagged as solved, perhaps you mistook my last post for me confusing isolated layers with them being turned off? This certainly isnt the case

I can reproduce the problem and it seems like a bug. Don't think there is a solution unless autodesk fixes it. Glad you pointed out the cause of it though.

Seems like a workaround that solved the problem, why would it not be a solution for everyone else with the same problem to follow?

If we all waited for Autodesk to fix things, 50% of solved solutions on this website would have to be removed.

LAYFRZ {SETTINGS} VPORTS..... VPFREEZE is what you want if you dont want items being frozen on model space
