Something I've noticed when selecting multiple files at once (FYI: my file folders are set to "Details" view, and sort alpha-numeric default Windows settings):
If I select a sequence of files in the order they appear in the window--for instance, top to bottom--the application always opens the LAST file in the sequence first, appearing in the 1st position (left), followed by the subsequent files in their respective A-Z order.
However, if I select the same sequence of files in reverse order (bottom to top), the application will open them in their respective A-Z order.
I don't know why it does this--it ALWAYS has, and it's annoying. I can't say I've had your exact experience, but I'm not surprised to hear it. None of the "experts" in Autodesk community have been able to solve the trivial discrepancy I've been having since it appeared with the 2021 release. I even included screenshots a described in detail what happens. I'm convinced they're either stumped or they're still trying to duplicate the issue locally.
Something that has helped me navigate through the file tabs quicker than mouse clicking is the CTRL+TAB shortcut. This will select the file tab to the right of whatever tab you are currently viewing; SHIFT+CTRL+TAB to select the tab to the left. And this function does "round robin", meaning that if you are working in display tab on the far right, CTRL+TAB will return you to the tab on the far left, whether that be the Start tab or your first file. And likewise, S+C+T will return you to the last tab on the right in the "anti-clockwise" direction. Hope this helps a bit.
