FATAL ERROR: unhandled access violation reading 0x0010 exception at 143239a6h

I have a user who is encountering the error seen in the title. I have tried the suggestions from what I found on the autodesk forums, the chat system for autodesk rarely shows an available agent online, so im really hoping someone on here has some idea's.

- I repaired Autocad LT

- reinstalled LT

- Installed update for LT 2018

- made sure all drivers were up to date on the machine

- manually installed the latest .net framework 4.7.2

- sfc scan to check windows integrity - came out fine.

- lastly, did a fresh install of windows 10 x64bit and then reinstalled Acad LT 2018 once again..... 1 hour later he reported the fatal error again.... im out of ideas now 😞

What type of license do you have for this Autodesk product?  Carried over pepertual license or a single user subscription?  If the latter, for a test can you run the product with out connection to the internet?

it is a subscription bought from the Autodesk online store. I will have him give that a try.

on another note - it just happened again to him so i shot over there to see this in person.. it seems when the error is going to happen, right before hand it will say system variables have changed. (please see screenshot)  the 2 on the top are the ones that changed. I tried changing the preferred to 1 and 0 but when i did it turned AutoCad all black and then the Fatal error happened anyway. 20180522_095449.jpg

Not sure if the above is why he is getting the Fatal Error or not, I also sent the error report to Autodesk.. and got a automated response back from it seen below, but there was no display driver error or any other indication the display driver had any troubles.  He is using a Dell E5450 with Dell docking station connected to two monitors, incase that information is needed.

Hello @Anonymous,

Please try the suggested solution in this article "System Variable Changed" message appears in AutoCAD". This message pops up because one or more of the system variables that are monitored by the System Variable Monitor has changed.

I will also move this post to the AutoCAD LT forum, this seems to be an application based issue.

Let us know how it turns out.

Hello @Anonymous,

Which error do you receive 1st the "Fatal Error" or the "System Variable Changed"?

I think it happens all at once, but if I had to choose which happens first - I believe the systems variable message pops up first. If you try to do anything after that or close out of the variable manager or change the preferred variable etc. Autocad turns all black except the tool bar up top for around 5-10 seconds before the Fatal error pops up.

Hello @Anonymous,

Have you tried the steps outlined in the article provided, like the "Reset all" variables?

Yes, makes no difference whether you choose an individual variable or reset all of them - still crashes.

I have another laptop that is exactly the same with the same drivers etc. I will be testing to see if i can duplicate the error on this one today.

Hello @Anonymous,

That's a great idea, it may only be an isolated incident. The Windows Profile permissions may have changed on the computer with the issue you can also Create a New User Account (Full Control user permissions).

The Windows Profile needs access to this location & registry:

C:\Users\laurein\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\Autodesk

So I found that I was getting the same error on the test laptop as well... it seemed to be a display driver causing the issue - once i changed the driver the test laptop did not get the error anymore. But on the users machine when the driver was changed - he still gets the error. A work around for now was changing the driver and turning Hardware acceleration off, now he doesnt get the error but the problem still exists with acceleration turned on 😞

Hello @Anonymous,

Let us know how it's going.

Have you been able to reproduce the error, or does it just seem specific to that Windows Profile & computer?

I was able to reproduce the error on my test machine that was identical to the users machine. However, since i installed a new display driver on the test machine i cannot get it to error out anymore. The users machine after installing the same new driver seemed to have no effect as it Fatal Error'ed right after opening a drawing. I also tried logging in as myself on the users machine (I have full admin privileges) and got the error as well on his machine. If you turn off hardware acceleration and then open a drawing - no Fatal errors are reported. So im kind of back to square one for an actual fix.
