Switching from layout tab to model space causes the above error. Hardware acceleration has been turned off and makes no difference. Is there a way to import the data from the drawing with errors to a clean drawing without opening the file?

Sorry to hear that you have such trouble...

I am not aware of any method to retrieve the content of a drawing without opening it. 

But let's try some steps first.

• Open the drawing with recover and run an Audit. - Test it
• Update your graphics driver - test it
• When the drawing is open transfer the data with wblock to a clean template.

Is this the only drawing with this behavior? Did it ever work?

Have you changed your configuration recently?

Can you upload the drawing for us?

Thanks for the tip to use wblock to transfer data before the drawing crashes, I believe this has solved the problem for now.
