Every session I get the dialog "System Variable has changed"

I have been running LT 2017 for months now and every time I start a session, I get the dialog box in the lower right corner that says "A system variable has changed".  There is a link that if you click it, opens up the System Variable Monitor.  Without exception, its always the MIRRTEXT variable that is being reported as having changed when I have never done so.  Its to the point that it is distracting as it pops up on every new session of LT.

I searched the knowledge base but there isn't anything that is reporting how to fix it.  In addition, Autodesk apparently doesn't have a technical support staff on call or chat as I could find no way to contact them to report this as a bug.

If anyone out there knows how to bring this to the attention of someone at Autodesk, I would appreciate an assist.

Thanks

Jim

Turn off SYSMONITOR perhaps if you cannot remove that entry from it?
What setting do you prefer? 0?

>>>...Autodesk apparently doesn't have a technical support...<<<

You get that from your subscription portal

Or as described in the post to zipped by in your anxiety to post

I never change it from 0 as I don't want the text backwards. But the system is changing it to 1 and therefore, the message pops up. And of course I could turn off the monitor but then the system would reset the variable and I wouldn't know until the next time I mirrored an object with text.

And thanks for the reminder about the portal. I was just given access a few weeks ago and hadn't had a chance to investigate. I will log in and put in a trouble ticket and see where that leads me.

Again, thanks for the speedy reply and the information

Jim

Hi @jcheiser

I can help with logging the defect for you. I can also look into the problem a little further.

I just need some additional information for you.

  • What type of Windows are you running? 7, 8, 10?
  • Have you tried reset to defaults (save a file of your settings as needed)?
  • If you log in as a different user on your system does the issue happen in that profile?
  • I'm assuming this happens with all files, new and old?

I'll try to monitor my AutoCAD LT 2017 today to see if I am able to reproduce your issue and circle back to you with any updates or suggestions.

Sir

I am running Windows 7 Professional.
If I understand the next question correctly, every time this dialog pops up, I click RESET ALL/OK. If I am supposed to do an addition save, I haven't done so and don't know how.
I haven't tried logging in as a different user. Our systems are pretty well locked down and are single user machines although the sys admin logs in to perform installs, etc.
And yes, it happens for both new and old files.

Thanks for your interest in this.

Jim

Is LT2017 fully patched and updated? It is here and I cannot replicate your issue (also in Win7Pro).

I am having the same problem with MIRRTEXT changing itself; running AutoCAD 2016 on Windows 7 professional.  Is there a service pack that should be installed?  (my machine has SP 1)

MIRRTEXT is a per-DWG setting: s that perhaps the cause, you open other drawings that do not have this set the way you want?

Otherwise variables don't change themselves: there is a trigger.

To help you identify the trigger, take advantage of SYSVARMONITOR command: set it to watch this and other varialbes, it will instantly tell you when a variable changes from your perferred setting, which allows you to stop, tap CTRL+F2 keys, and see eactly what triggered the change.

Let me look into this to see if I can recreate the issue on my side. I believe you are up to date with the service packs.

Is this a fairly new issue or something that has been ongoing?

Hello,

Here are screen shots of the one and only command just before the 'system variable changed' message, and the system variable monitor window. Is the triggering command substitution of simplex.shx for arch.shx?

nothing attached: you will need to come to the website to post pictures.

Font substitution is a program alert and it's there to tell you what you see is NOT what was sent by the file creator: I would get the missing font from them and install it so the pop-up goes away.

It would help with troubleshooting your case if you could provide the file? You can email it to me directly or ZIP it up and add it to this thread.

Would you be able to create a screencast video of the issue?

Thanks in advance for your extra efforts.

Following up on your thread, were you able to find a solution? Or a workaround?

Did any of the posts in the thread help with your issue?

Please post back in the thread if you are still having an issue with AutoCAD or Select Accept as Solution for the post’s that helped.

Thanks for your time.

To add you can also try the following;

Choose Click To View Change, click the status bar icon Status Bar Icon, or enter SYSVARMONITOR at the command line to open the System Variable Monitor dialog box. Review the changes and do one or more of the following:

  • Choose Reset All to reset every variable in the list to the preferred settings.
  • Choose Edit List... to add or remove system variables to be monitored.
  • Check or uncheck the boxes to enable or disable the following settings:
    • Notify when these system variables change
    • Enable balloon notification

Sarah,

Thanks for your continuing interest in my problem. I've only just now had time to try to go back and find one of the files where the problem happened (it has been happening in multiple files over the last few months). I think you will find the problem is generated immediately upon opening the drawing - at least that's what happens to me. Other files, I think, go along OK for a while and then somehow change the mirrtext sysmonitor variable without my requesting it. It always seems to be mirrtext that goes haywire.

Thanks,

Hi Patty,

Thanks for coming back to the thread. If you could, please provide a drawing sample file.

I haven't seen a lot of other user's experience this issue. If you don't mind adding a drawing I can try a run it through some testing and see if I'm able to recreate the same issue.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

FWIW, I have the same thing, I am to the point of ignoring it until it matters - I don't mirror a lot of text.

Happened on Windows 7 with 2017lt, and now I have upgraded to Windows 10 and 2018lt. Still there.

Hello, i am having trouble with this issue as well. I have tried changing the system variable once the dialog box pops up but once a new drawing is opened or created the system variable resets back to what it was. I have tried searching for it many times with no solution.
