error starting program

Autocad LT 2000 running under windows 95 (no plotters or digitizers)

Used trouble-free for 8 months then...

When attempting to open Autocad LT, 2 message windows pop up

1. Error Starting Program: The MSVCIRT.DLL file is linked to missing export MSVCRT.DLL:??_U@YAPAXI@Z.
Warning

2. D:\Autocad\aclt.exe:D:\Autocad\aclt.exe. A device attached to the system is not functioning.
failure

msvcirt.dll in c:\windows\system 6.10.8637.0
msvcrt.dll in c:\windows\system 6.00.8397.0

I've tried reinstalling Autocad LT with no success. Renaming MSVCRT.DLL (to allow this being reinstalled) is not an option as it is "in use by windows".

Any suggestions or where to look for resolution ?

Did you do a full LT un-install (answer yes to delete all files, even if
used by other apps), restart your PC, and then re-install? Did you remember
to turn off all apps, and anti-virus and any system fix software?

Have you added any new software to your PC? Move any program folders? Do a
little 'house' cleaning on your PC? Uninstall the previous version of LT
after installing 2000? DO a little registry editing?
