Dynamic Block Creation

Hello guys

I was just asked by an office mate if you can create dynamic blocks with LT. I immediately said no because all of the You tube videos I have seen say that you need full AutoCAD - and then doubts crept in.

Can you create dynamic blocks in AutoCAD LT and if so does anyone know the release that allowed you to do so?

Since.. i am not sure: 2011?

Limit: LT can create parameter action, constrain action NOT.

HELP in AutoCAD/LT at your office not working LOL

Dynamic Blocks for ALL AutoCAD variants showed up at the same time back in the day.

Dedicated Dynamic Blocks forum is here, one of the most active participants is an LT user https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/dynamic-blocks/bd-p/154

Hello James,

I exclusively use AutoCAD LT for making Dynamic blocks.  I have made about 30 and all have considerably different levels of complexity.  I have not ran into a single limitation with LT.  I am mostly creating schematics and control panel component drawings that are able to be rotated, arrayed, and have different visibility states.  I suggest you watch both the Webinars on Dynamic Blocks.  VStudley has a lot of good information under the Dynamic Block Forum.  Everything can be found here:  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/dynamic-blocks/dynamic-blocks-showcase-share-your-favorite-dynamic-bl...

I will attach a few images of the tool palettes that contain these blocks.  Every as aspect of the work below was done in LT.  So in conclusion, there is nothing that should hold you back from creating Dynamic blocks even if you are only using LT.  I hope this helps you and I hope you start doing Dynamic Blocks.  They are probably one of the greatest tools in the program.

I know you can use dynamic blocks in AutoCAD LT but can you create them in LT? As I say, all of the videos show not but then I am not an expert.

Thanks for helping though

Yes you can create them in LT.

I use LT exclusively at work and have no problems creating dynamic blocks.

I am sorry for not being clear.  I have used AutoCAD LT to create all of my blocks in my tool palette without any problems or limitations.  Using and creating are equally supported in my version, AutoCAD LT 2015.  Good luck in becoming an expert!!!

I have searched but am still looking for an answer of how to add dynamic block drawings to the tool palette. When I save a dynamic block as a drawing it won't work from the tool palette. Command line says that the block 'W08x##' references itself and can't be placed in the drawing or If I give it a different name when I save it then it will only place that one block without attributes and they only work in the block editor.

The way I've got it is one "container" drawing with all my blocks in.

See the attached screencast on how to insert blocks on tool palettes. Note the mouse button is held down to drag the block
