Is anyone aware of a way to save a dwg file so that it can be viewed and
printed but not edited.

Graeme,

One way is to e-plot the drawing to a dwf file.
Then the drawing can be viewd and printed
with the Whip plugin for IE and Netscape.

I was concerned with larger format drawings (A1 size) that would be plotted
in black on white and preserving line thicknesses.

Basically using AutoCAD to view and plot but not edit.

And there is also the converting the drawings to PDF although not as good as
your solution.

That's definitely an option in general, but not for viewing "using
AutoCAD" as he clarified in the second post. 🙂
