Disabling Function Key action modes

I have a new HP computer running Windows 11. I need to disable the Action Modes that are assigned to the function keys. This was very easy to do in Windows 10 by going into the BIOS settings. But Windows 11 Bios settings no longer have that option. Has anyone found the process to enable/disable the function key action modes in Windows 11?

HP support not an option? which HP model/keyboard is this by chance?
HP also host user forums like these over there, it is very active, here is the link https://h30434.www3.hp.com/

In the meantime... Action Modes? Do you mean your keyboard has functions that take over the F-keys?

Thanks for the link to the HP Forum

My laptop and my new HP PC both came with the function keys mapped to the alternate symbols shown on the keys, such as speaker volume, etc. In order to use the function keys such as F8 and F3 with AutoCAD, you must simultaneously hit the desired function key + the fn key for a one time use. Thus taking your hand off the mouse. This is very cumbersome (and unacceptable)

In Windows 10 you can enter BIOS mode when starting the computer and easily disable the ActionKey mode. In Windows 11 when in BIOS that option is not available. My "chat" with HP ended with them telling me if the disable option is not available in BIOS then it can't be done.- I don't buy that.

I am hoping that someone else has run into this with Windows 11 and how they solved it. If all else fails I will wipe my new computer and reload it with Windows 10

Did you ever figure out how to fix this? I'm having the same issue with a new laptop.

Hi,

you have to search on HP forum or helppage, the issue isn't an AutoCAD thing.

One sample for some HP models:

https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/ish_5878386-5878448-16

Use the search engine or ask the support:

Hiw enable disable fn default.

Each time I was using a Windows laptop (different brands) in the past, it was super easy to change this - you just hit one button on the keyboard to switch from the media etc. keys to F keys. It was Fn + something, I don't remember what (also maybe different for each brand), just google it for your specific laptop if you can't find it on your keyboard right away. I haven't seen a laptop that would NOT have this easy setting, no BIOS changes needed.

I agree, as in my link showed too (for some HP models).

Look for "fn lock" label:  [fn]+[thiskey] toogle between modes

or like my DELL

or "a lock" symbol [fn]+[thiskey] toogle between modes

as already said, It's a windows thing and what key (or other way) to change it - it's vendor thing.

The favorite search engine will help to solve it.
