Default title block template not opening on existing models, only new drawings

I'm new to AutoCAD 2026 so still going through a massive learning curve, although have some experience on Fusion 360, which helps a little.

I made a custom title block with the company logo and then set as the default template dwt file. It opens fine with the logo on new drawings, but it will not open for an existing model, I only get the standard blank layout. I can upload the long-winded way "add template" by right clicking on the Layout tab but the logo is missing.

Any ideas why an existing model won't open the custom default template, why the issue with the logo using add template, and is there a solution?

Kind regards

Simon

@UCB1_0

Welcome to the forums!  An existing file will not automatically see or load a template that was created after the file was created.  I believe this is true in just about any software.  Sadly, for files already in use, the title block will need to be manually added.  Sound correct, @pendean ?

Correct: plain AutoCAD is not Fusion360, not the same target audience/user base, it does not pre-load template files in all other files you might open and use without importing one or the other into whichever you open first, but variants like Civil, MECHANICAL (the one "fusion' similar variant) and Plan3D may do so I believe.

 @UCB1_0 Are you perhaps using the incorrect variant for your industry? or are you just in the incorrect tutorial for plain old set-in-its-ways AutoCAD?

HELP inside plain AutoCAD should answer all of your other questions, if you have a specific exact issue please start a post for it.

Thank you both for the prompt response. That answers my question, manual it is then. We use fusion 360 for unusual joinery projects, started using AutoCAD LT for interior fit-out 2 days ago.

Just so you know, LT has it's own forum HERE since it is hobbled less capable than full AutoCAD, the topic of this forum: I'll ask the admins to move your post.

you may also want to update your OP to indicate LT:

"...I'm new to AutoCAD 2026 so still going..."
