Creating a blank text field

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am trying to create a blank text box in a title block. I want to be able to double click in an empty box in order to enter text. If I try to create a text field, "---" is displayed as a place holder. I have tried replacing the "----" with empty spaces but then the entire text field just deletes. I tried alt 0160 to insert blank spaces as well and it still does not work

You can't have and do that: place a character in that text box, a dot or dash instead.

Fields point to (or reference) _something_.... so what is the field referencing that you're trying to create?

I just created one that references the "Document>Author" and then I went into the DWGPROPS command and entered ALT+0160 into the Author field, and I get a blank, empty field, shown below.

I'm not sure if a field is the right word for me to use. Let me explain in more detail.

I am currently making a title block for my supervisor. This title block has a few blank boxes that are either going to be empty or filled with arbitrary information. He is asking for me to insert a "blank text box" in these cells such that if he wishes to insert text in there areas, he simply has to double click in the box. If he does not want to insert anything in there, he won't have to do anything.

What happens right now is if I want to create a text box, I HAVE to fill it out with some text otherwise it deletes. my supervisor does not want me to have any place-filler text, because if he decides not to use the boxes, he will have to waste time deleting them.

Here is a screenshot. I want to have blank text boxes in the empty boxes shown.

How are you getting to this author field from dwgprops? I only have options for "custom property name" and "value".

You could use the items in DWGPROPS, use ALT+0160 as the placeholder, then the boss could simply run DWGPROPS and fill in the items he wants to fill in.

Otherwise, I don't really know how you'd do this. You could use a block with attributes, but this won't necessarily give you a visible empty text box.
