Create AutoCAD table from Excel but without a link

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have existing Excel files that I would like to use to create a table in AutoCAD.

Yes, I've seen other posts on this topic but they all come down to one thing: the AutoCAD table is linked to the Excel file which is exactly what I do not want.

Once the AutoCAD table is created, I will edit it directly (like any other table) and discard the Excel file.

I know that some members here will question why I want that, and others will suggest various methods to create a "better" link, but I'm only interested in creating a stand-alone table.

Explore using PASTESPEC command in HELP, focus on the AUTOCAD ENTITIES sub-option.

Just have a well defined TABLSTYLE in your drawing ready to use and active first and expect to still have to fix some formatting.

And just in case you had the idea... any custom features and calcs not found in AutoCAD Table objects will not automagically appear and be useful in AutoCAD after pasting.

I created a new table, same amount of rows and columns, all specified as data. When I copy a single row from the Excel file, the contents of each line is repeated in each "box" of the AutoCAD table.

Attached is a photo of the Excel file and the flawed AutoCAD table.

Not what I wrote: did you get a chance to look that command up in HELP? PASTESPEC is the paste function from the copy/paste Windows action.

Here is how to use it if HELP did not explain it enough for your needs: Go into the Excel speadsheet, select all the cells in that table only then CTRL+C (aka copy to clipboard); in AutoCAD do nothing else other than start PASTESPEC command and choose AUTOCAD ENTITIES sub-option.

As I noted earlier, your desired TABLESTYLE needs to be active to be used.

Try it.
