I used to be able to type SELECT then WP (wpolygon) and select objects in an
irregularly shaped area, then paste them to a Word Doc. Now I can not. Any
suggestions?

Check tools options selection try setting selection method noun verb

I tried your suggestion but that option was already selected. I unselected
it and still no luck.
