Can't rotate in 3d view

I have not been able to find a way to rotate in 3d view in Autocad lt 2017. Initially, Shift + middle mouse button, which I understand is supposed to rotate, just brought up a menu. I entered CUI into command, went to mouse buttons > shift + click > button 3  and entered   ^P'_3DORBITTRANSPARENT ^P   into the macro, which i found online was the macro for 3D Orbit. That just made shift + mmb return an error saying the command was unrecognizable. I also do not see the 3D view cube (not sure what its called, the cube in top right that rotates the view) and can not find a way to view it. Right now I have no idea how I can rotate in 3D in this software and I can't find anything else online.

I am using a 5 year old laptop with a generic, low grade graphics card, so I'm wondering if maybe my computer is just not powerful enough for autocad lt 2017. This is my work computer, so I'll try on my pc at home when I get there, but I need to know if I can't use this software on my work computer so I can do something about it.

RIBBON
VIEW tab
VIEWS panel
There is a scrolling menu with presets to rotate "3d" views. Are these not working?

OR how about UCS command: same Ribbon Panel noted above, but the panel right next to it, three UCS icons vertically stacked, hover your mouse over the one with a 3 in the icon and wait for the pop-up explanation to appear.

Hello,

Thanks for the response. My viewport looks a bit different from that. I don't see those options.

It took me a minute to find it, in 2017 the view option isn't visible by default, you need to open the cui and turn it to show=yes as in the attached image. or use the menu in place of the ribbon.

As another point the 3orbit isn't available in LT, have you previously used the full Autocad version? In LT you can view a model from any angle but you have to do it manually with the VPOINT (or -VPOINT) command

3DOrbit is not available in LT? Wow, that's a surprise. Explains what my problem was though.

I'm new to Autocad. I've used 3D software in the past but I'm just learning Autocad. I'm using Youtube tutorials to learn, which is how I ran into that in the first place. I guess the video I was on was not the LT version.

I went to Drafting and Annotation > View 2D and Appearance; Show was already set to Yes. This is really causing me problems. I just need to figure out how to rotate around what I'm working on, and I'm not at all sure how to do this.

Sorry about that the CUI in that image should have been expanded to the next level (see the attached). Can you post a copy of the drawing and explain what you are trying to do, there are ways to move around inside a 3D model using LT it's just not straight forward, and it would be easier to explain using an example.

Right-click here and turn on Panels that are turned off, no need to go into CUI command. Repeat for all tabs in the Ribbon, you're missing out.

Nope, 3DOrbit is in full AutoCAD: you need to upgrade if you want that.

Thanks guys, I can now see Views and set it to top, left or bottom.

So I am coming to this from 3D Studio and Blender. In both those applications is was essential for me to be able to constantly easily rotate around the object to see it from any angle. So are you saying there is no way to easily rotate around in LT and I need to manually set view angles in from View Manager? That seems like a massive draw back here, and if that's the case I can't understand why something so essential would be left out. And the 3d view cube is also 3DOrbit and only on the full version?

Thank you,

Joe

LT is geared towards 2D drafting, and it is not comparable to 3DStudio or Blender: sounds like you/your company picked up LT for it's cheap price plus a few assumptions without field testing it first. Not much you can do about it in LT, 3DOrbit is not a function you can add.
