Can't open file because it was created in a new version

I use LT by subscription since 2015.  Have installed all updates available. It's my understanding I get automatic updates to current version with my subscription.  However, when I open a new file with Notepad it indicates version AC1027 and should be AC1032.

Co-worker just started a new subscription in 2017.  When I open a file created with this program in Notepad it indicates version AC1032.

Threfore, it's not possible for us to share files on the server in our office. Not good..... What is causing the problem and why is my program subscription not updating properly?

How can we fix this?

Thanks,

Darryl

1032 is the format for LT2018 files- if you are trying to open files made/edited in LT2018 in an instance of LT 2015, it won't work.  Does that make sense?

More info:

Once you have edited a file in a "newer" format, it won't be readable to "older" versions of the software.

I know it is Wikipedia, but the chart here is helpful:

Yes, I understand that.  Maybe the question is why isn't my subscription updating to 2018?  It was my understanding updates are included with the maintenance subscription.

They should be- did you download and install the 2018 version?  It won't happen automatically; you need to manually download and install the "correct" version first.

Did you actually log into your accounts page to see if your subscription is current and LT2018 is listed? The link is here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/all

If LT2018 is listed, you have to download and install it yourself manually, that will never happen alone by itself without your active participation.

Hi @djw,

I'm checking in here to see if you were able to access and install the 2018 version of the software to resolve the file version issue. Did @pendean and @JPomeroy's recommendations point you in the right direction?
