Autocad microsoft teams with onedrive client sync: files disappearing

Hello,

We have migrated our user autocad files to microsoft teams, these files are being synced with the onedrive client. So we have a cloud 'copy' and a local copy on each of our users's pc's. Unluckily, when someone opens an autocad file (from the local onedrive synced cache), the file is removed from the cloud (so it's no loger visible for the other users) but appears once again (= gets synced) when the user who was working on the file, closes the file.

Has anyone experienced this behaviour? Is there a workaround? Is this - by design - autocad behaviour?

Greetings,

Koen Walraevens

To be honest, our sharepoint specialist hasn't found the necessary time thus it hasn't been implemented and quite possibly newer will be ... sorry. Our users are already used to the state of affairs so there is no need anymore to implement. If you wait long enough....

AutoCAD and OneDrive:  Being used on AutoCAD 2024 - 12/01/2023

Never used this setup before until now. No one seems to have an answer except “don’t use OneDrive for AutoCAD”. I had no choice but to solve the problem. This is long and I apologize, but it works. So here are a couple of solutions for you to try: ( be sure to see the clip below )

Step 1: Go to the FOLDER where your drawings are stored on OneDrive. You can just do the drawings if you want, but you should go back as far to the beginning where AutoCAD would look for drawings and XREFs. I recommend the folder because it will select everything that is in the folder. (But if your CAD files are deeper inside your company’s folder and you don’t need the files that are before your project folders, like ours, go to your projects folder and select that folder).

Right click onto your FOLDER name under your company’s OneDrive name and select “Always keep on this device”. This will process through the cloud and finally come up with a solid green dot and your first step is ready to go. The process took about 20 mins but may take longer. Wait till it all is green.

Now open your drawing. For many this may have solved the issue. But if you are still missing XREFs, go to step 2. This one is crazy and hard to believe. I accidentally hit undo and seen the XREF pop up or I still maybe scratching my head. Funny, I still am because I have no idea why hitting undo works for XREFs.

Step 2: If you opened your drawing and are still missing XREFs. Go to where there is a missing XREF so you can watch the process live. Now do a SAVEAS: TEST1 (call it what you want). Then type U and enter. Boom!! You’re missing XREF just loaded. Now do a SAVEAS to your real file name. Close. Reopen and see if they all stayed. For us the files stayed. Now if you go back later and they are missing, see if you still have the green dot. If so, do the SAVEAS, U, SAVEAS again. Work on the files and hope the next time they all load or just repeat. I know this is crazy, but it works for us.

Hope this helps!!

JRR.
