AutoCAD LT - Hatch transparency

I'm trying to fill shapes in AutoCad LT to stop the layer underneath showing through to make my drawing clearer. The only way I can figure out how to do this is to Hatch the shape with a white solid fill as shown my the rectangle on the right of images but then I cannot see any of the lines within for more complex equipment drawings. How do I achieve this without filling the object white so it still appears the same colour as the background as in the container on the left of both images?

Any help greatly appreciated!

You can set the transparency of hatches. See the images below
