AutoCAD LT 2025 Suddenly Crashes When Using the Move Command with Xrefs Anyone Seen This?

Hey everyone,

I’m Mrak Pousee, and I’ve hit a weird issue in AutoCAD LT 2025. I’m working with an xref-heavy drawing, and whenever I try to move objects across the xref boundary, the program just crashes—no warning, no error message. It’s super frustrating, especially when I’m on a tight deadline.

Here’s what I’ve checked so far:

  1. Verified all xrefs are loaded with paths set to “Full path”.
  2. Ran PURGE and AUDIT—no corrupt data found.
  3. Tested in a new clean drawing with minimal content—it works there, so seems linked to the specific drawing.
  4. Reverted to an older backup—same crash occurs at the same operation point.

Questions for the community:

  • Has anyone seen this behavior when moving across xrefs in AutoCAD LT?
  • Could this be related to graphics settings (e.g., using Hardware Acceleration)—worth toggling off?
  • Is it a known bug or something that can be resolved by rebuilding the xref structure?
  • Any tricks you’d recommend before I open a support ticket—like resetting profiles, copying BRK files, or using a different save format?
  • Any insights or shared experiences would be a huge help. Thanks in advance—I’d really appreciate your wisdom! 🙏

Have you installed the 2025.1.2 Update yet? ABOUT command in your AutoCAD will confirm what you have installed. If not, get it from your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Restart your PC afterwards please.

Is this a laptop? Or desktop? Brand and model? Specs if you know them?

What is your OS and version?

Where do you store files (and XREFs)? How are you connected to that location?

What does "xref heavy" mean? We all use XREFs all day long in our offices for example, we're not crashing out of the blue like that.

Did you already try turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables?

How about starting GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

Did you get a chance to try the many tips posted here yet?

Questions:

1) Has this problem happened before?

2) If not, what might have caused it to suddenly start?

3) Have you tried installing LT 2024 to see if the problem occurs on that version?
